Band Treads the Boards

The band took to the stage for a touring production of the most famous story about a brass band – ‘Brassed Off’. During a week-long run at Darlington Civic Theatre, the band played the part of Grimley Colliery Band and reprised music from the film’s soundtrack including Death Or Glory, The Floral Dance and the Overture from William Tell.

The professional cast was led by former Brookside actor John McArdle, who played bandmaster Danny. The band’s acting is unlikely to win any awards, although some of the players looked like naturals in the ‘marching will under the influence of alcohol’ scene.

The band thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hope that everyone who came to see the show had a great time too.
